Taiko DS3 secrets- It's now official!

Soon, the hidden unlockables of Taiko DS3, previously only known to hackers, will finally be made available to everyone!

Link to original article, in Japanese.

From September 10 this year onwards, McDonalds will be giving out the results of their collaboration with the Taiko no Tatsujin team (seriously, do they need any more advertising?) in the forms of these sweet-looking Don-chan Happy Meal toys!

Usually when a kid gets a Happy Meal toy it'll probably last him about ten seconds of entertainment before it starts gathering dust for the rest of eternity. Not so with these, because all eight figurines being given out have a button that makes sounds. Sounds that can be recorded in your DS' mic to unlock hidden content in Taiko no Tatsujin DS3.Yeah, this is the real way to unlock everything. The text passwords are just there in case you don't have access to the toys, or for some reason you can't use the DS mic, or it isn't picking up the sound no matter how hard you try.

Here are the Happy Meal toys that will be given out, together with their dates. No doubt these will become desirable over time.

Regular Don with a drum on top. When its sound is played in the sound password screen, it unlocks the Small Taiko.

Unlocks the Yam outfit when played.

Cute! Don-chan in the McDonalds outfit. Unlocks the same thing in the game. When the button is pressed, a recording of a McDonalds commercial is played.

Apparently Cake-don plays a Happy Birthday tune when its button is pressed. Unlocks the same cake outfit in the game.

Classic music plays through the musician-Don. Same outfit is unlocked, as usual.

Hey, now the eyes can be distinguished from the panda spots. Not in the game though. Chinese-styled music plays when the panda's button is pushed.

Cute ribbon-Don plays cute music~ The same ribbon is unlocked in the game.

And lastly the almighty Mekadon, with a small Don resting on top of it. Predictably, robot sounds play from this figurine. Unlocks the Mekadon drum sound.

Now you're wondering, where's Papa Mama Mac? No matter which figurine you own, as long as one of these eight sounds is played into the DS and the costume/sound is successfully unlocked, a letter will be sent to your in-game message box, containing Papa Mama Mac.

Why'd that old Beat Star toy work in the first place anyway? Must be some sort of coincidence, or someone having a little too much time on their hands experimenting with the password screen.
