Random: Taiko no Tatsujin.....14?!

Caught in Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.

What's this? A Taiko no Tatsujin 1? But it's not a Taiko 1, look closely at the screen, it's actually a 14! Look even more closely and you'll even spot the 10th Anniversary logo, meaning it's been updated with the 5 extra songs too!

How did this happen? Well, sometimes, to save costs, arcade owners purchase just the software for the specific Taiko no Tatsujin version (the cabinet banners and flags are provided with it) and overwrite the hard drive on an old cabinet, so technically any Taiko arcade cabinet (barring Taiko 0) can play any version of Taiko no Tatsujin, though this is one of the most extreme cases I've seen. So far apart in the timeline! It's playing one of the latest Taiko arcades, but with a really classic cabinet design. Who needs the plastic scale model when you can play on the actual Taiko 1? (lol). Hope it's refurbished properly...

pikaby asks: Has Taiko recommended anime to you?

because I felt like putting a Pokemon picture shut up

Anyone here a big fan of anime? If you are, then you'll probably have found some familiarity when you first came to Taiko and found your favorite anime opening being included in the game (or any anime theme you've heard before, for that matter). Though the covers aren't always impressive, it's always nice to see them try. Pokemon themes was my first step. I know it's the same case for quite a few of you too!

But. Has the reverse ever occurred to you? Listening or playing a anime theme song on Taiko, then moving on to watch the actual anime to see what it's all about? Free advertising hasn't caught on to me yet so far as I don't watch an awful lot of animation.

Taiko no Tatsujin Ai no Theme long version

And please welcome....Taiko no Tatsujin's longest ever song, and the greatest tribute to the series ever made thus far! How did they drag the song on for so long? Let me just say this; it's a wonder what slow instrumentals can do when they're allowed to drag on without interjecting vocals.

The vocalist is also revealed....want to know who she is? She's not Japanese, that's for sure. Go check out the Song of the Week page for the song!

Shin Ryougen no Mai and Hanayou ~flourishing blossoms~

Above is Shin Ryougen no Mai, which is basically the same song but with a more powerful drum beat in the background and an extended opening tune.

And this is Hanayou ~flourishing blossoms~! Definitely in a league of its own from the first five Kikyoku songs, this one has a livelier and more modern beat to it, but maintaining the same traditional Chinese feel to it. Very nice. Can you already imagine the notechart to come out of this?

Credits to Lee Jia Yi for informing us.

Details from the Full Combo soundtrack

Thought we weren't going to have this until the official release date tomorrow? Well, to hell with that; the album's been leaked far earlier than expected! Well, it could have been even earlier by a day or two, but details have to be compiled after all. Some of these are quite exciting.

Namco Taiko Blog (13 March 2012) - Taiko 0 update

And everything that was mentioned yesterday is being put up officially on the blog today. The surprise they wanted to reveal were two Ura difficulties, and gave hints as to what they were. One of them is from Etou's favorite anime (that'd be Lion Ura), and they mentioned that there's another new Ura too, from a popular song which was difficult (Ao no Senritsu Ura). So much for the surprise....I wonder how players managed to find both so quickly though? The songlist is too big to be simply hunting around for new Uras by trial and error. Oh well.

Taiko 0 update is live today!

The big day is upon us! And as Namco promised, there definitely is a few more things that were added in the update other than the new songs. I won't hide them, just scroll down and read!

The songs introduce with the update are:
  • J-Pop song RISING SUN, by EXILE
  • Anime songs We Go! from One Piece and SWITCH ON! from Kamen Rider Fourze
  • Namco Original songs Blue Rose Ruin and Toryu
As expected, Blue Rose Ruin gets pushed down to 8* in Taiko 0, making it easier than Red Rose Evangel (even though it still seems like the both of them are on equal footing in terms of difficulty).

RISING SUN is a 5* Oni (3/3/3/5). 330 notes on Oni.
We Go! is a 6* Oni (3/2/5/6). 569 notes on Oni.
SWITCH ON! is a basic Oni chart at 3* and looks like a new child-friendly song (1/1/3/3). 246 notes on Oni.

Toryu's HQ video is as follows and will be the one used in this site until a better HQ is found. It is an 8* Oni (4/5/7/8) with 541 notes. So much for hoping for a new 10*.

Besides the new songs, two songs receive Ura Oni difficulties for this update. They are:
  • Anime song Lion, from Macross F
  • Namco Original song Ao no Senritsu
Yes you heard right, the new 10* from Taiko PSP DX, which was downgraded to a 9*, now gets a new chart which pushes it back up to 10*! It has 976 notes and is way more frantic than ever before.

As for Lion Ura, it is 7*, up from 6* on regular Oni and has 487 notes.

First video of GERMINATION

GERMINATION is a classical-sounding Namco Original with loads of BPM changes and simple note patterns. Note-wise it resembles Dragon Spirit Medley, but with a very powerful tune playing behind it. Quite nice.

8* on Oni with 616 notes.

Namco Taiko Blog (7 March 2012)- PSP DX March download songs

a.k.a yesterday's update on the official site makes it into the blog, so there's nothing new to note in this one. There's samples of Germination and both Kita Saitama songs though if you want to listen to them. Germination is an instrumental song. Remember you can download this song pack starting tomorrow, and Kita Saitama 2000 and 200 are free of charge!

That's not the end of it! There will be another blog update on Thursday, that is tomorrow. Wonder what it is this time? (Come on, final big news of 10th anniversary, we're waiting)

Song of the Week! 3 March 2012

Many of you have asked in our song series pages why we never made an IdolM@ster series even though there are at least ten songs from that game in Taiko no Tatsujin. Simple reason actually; there's very little variation between each song so we didn't see it fit to write up about it as there would be quite little writing material to go around. The vocals are usually the same, and the notecharts, with a few exceptions, are around the 6* to 8* ballpark with little variation too.

But! Not talking about one of the largest and most consistent game music series in Taiko would be a crime, as the game itself is also a popular one in Japan. So we have designated March 2012 as IdolM@ster month, where all the featured songs will be from IdolM@ster! *cue fanfare*

Now, we begin with two songs.

Namco Taiko Blog (1 March 2012) - Yet another arcade update

Several weeks after the previous Taiko 0 update, Namco updates the Taiko 0 software version once again, and this time it's just not a cosmetic change, but something far better. Oh! Could it be...?
