September 2013 was a really great month for Taiko aficionados, and it ends really well with yesterday's Nicovideo/UStream broadcast by the Taiko Team, and this handy blog post is here to sum it up.

New Namco Originals revealed for Taiko Wii U!

Breaking news from the new Ustream! Full coverage will be done later as I haven't personally watched the stream (Lokamp most likely has, so expect to see more about it tomorrow!).

However a section of the stream was dedicated to this new console Taiko and a portion of its default songlist was revealed.....and it contains some of the most amazing songs released this past year and then some. (the rest of the genres remain the same)

Besides the four Originals we already know (Nightmare Survivor, Boku wa Shinse, Pastel Dream and Kuon no Yoru), eight others were revealed. Red means new songs, blue means console debut.
  • Atsumare Taiko Matsuri (あつまれ☆太鼓まつり!)
  • Shokou ~Dawn~ (曙光 ~Dawn~) (new Kikyoku song!)
  • Kimi no Akari (きみのあかり)
  • Zero no Nocturne (零の夜想曲)
  • Haryu (春竜 ~Haryu~)
  • SORA-VI Hinotori (SORA-VI 火ノ鳥)
  • Jinpuumaru (迅風丸)
  • Growing Up
The songlist will be updated soon! Stay tuned for more news and the rest of the stream information!

Mario and Luigi Costumes in Taiko Wii U

Short post for now, regarding the Mario costume we saw a week ago on a screenshot of the game. This was found on the official site by Lokamp. Nice to see both brothers getting costumes for the first time!

Namco Taiko Blog (26 September 2013) - October's Donchare of Loss and Gain

As September comes again to a close, today's Taiko Blog entry is about the next set of Don Challenge unlockable content (and probably the last one for Sorairo arcades, judging by the title list), as well as the first set of licensed songs which will be removed from this generation of arcades.

Correction: 'Tonari no Totoro' not confirmed for Taiko Wii U

A lot of you might have caught the songlist page and the details page for Taiko Wii U and saw that Tonari no Totoro was one of the songs to be included as downloadable content. However this is not the case; the promotional material and the side view of the box for the game showed Tonari no Totoro in big letters, and it's easy to miss out the extremely fine print that says 'より' (from), with the actual name of the song in tiny dark blue letters. Sanpo (さんぽ) is the song, not Tonari no Totoro, and definitely not both at once...yet.

This was also the same case for the downloadable Tamagotchi song; originally we reported the title as "Tamagotchi! Miracle Friends (たまごっち!みらくるフレンズ)", however the song title turned out to be "Miracle☆Travel (みらくる☆トラベル) ", which comes from the anime season Tamagotchi Miracle Friends. So the pattern follows, and we did not realize the mistake until now.

The source we had was not fake; the problem was the advertising material being misleading.

We deeply apologize for the mistake and we have removed Tonari no Totoro from the songlist and all related announcement posts until we can be sure it is actually available for download.

Random: Fast Haryu

We're used to seeing self-made videos of people speeding up Taiko songs and posting them online. That was quite a popular trend back when Namco first announced Haya Saitama. It has since quieted down, but this most recent video of a sped up Haryu brings it back. And it doesn't sound half bad! Almost like a legit remix of the song...now if someone could only add or change the instruments used for it. That would be so perfect!

Haryu is already so fast though. Wonder what it would be like to play this?

Taiko Wii U trailer and first video of Momoiro Taiko Dodon-ga Bushi

Right after today's Taiko feature at the Tokyo Game Show, Taiko Wii U's website became active, also featuring the trailer above. Nothing new for the game is being mentioned here,  except for some small details: in Baton Pass mode, if another player hits the buttons/drum when it's not their turn, the combo counter resets to zero, and confirming that Don-chan is no longer sprite-based (yes!).

Aside from that - again - is all stuff which was already seen, with the custom dancers for Super Mario, Golden Bomber, Momoiro Clover Z, ... Wait a minute?!?

That's right: the five-girl J-Pop band will be features as special dancers starting with Taiko Wii U's Momoiro Taiko Dodon-ga Bushi. Said collaboration song was played during the TGS presentation, with the play being recorded and put in the video above. Don-chan will also have five Momoiro Clover Z costumes in the game, one for each girl!

Not only do we now know the song's star ratings (3/4/5/6), but we have proof that the Taiko gameplay on Wii U will look exactly like the current arcade with the exception of the results screen and some parts before and after a game.

Last but not least, the Taiko Team itself confirmed the fact that this weekend, the Wii U game will be playable at the public opening of Tokyo Game Show. Let's hope we can see more information!

Pastel Dream in Taiko Wii U

Although we are still some days away from Tokyo Game Show, more screenshots have been circulating around the Net, like this one from nintendoeverything.com. But look closer at the song's title! It's Pastel Dream, appearing for the second time on a console since its debut on Taiko Portable DX.

Song of the Week! 14 September 2013

With a new Taiko console game in the air, there's surely a lot more to talk about on this blog for the next few weeks... and that's why we are covering a new song that will join the starting songlist of the upcoming Taiko Wii U!

Taiko Wii U at the Tokyo Game Show 2013

Many of you have a legitimate worry in your minds about the latest console Taiko game: why hasn't Namco officially announced it on the blog? Though the Donder website is officially updated with the game's website, the Donsearch function loaded with its default songlist, and they're making no secret about it in their Twitter, there has been zero fanfare whatsoever about the reveal. Why is that so?

It appears that the main reason can be summed up with three words: Tokyo Game Show. As you can see from the image above -coming from Namco Bandai's event schedule website for this year's TGS- it appears that Taiko Wii U will be announced on September 20th in an half-hour reveal, mainly focused around the recent Taiko collaboration with Momoiro Clover Z (hence the collab song being in Taiko Wii U's songlist). That's for TGS's corporate section, but what about the weekend, when everyone can attend Japan's videogame fair?

Namco Bandai's booth will definitely show videos for this new Taiko console game, but there won't be any demos, unlike Taiko no Tatsujin Wii Chogouka-ban from last year. This fact is also confirmed by the game's web entry for TGS 2013, also in the same website (link). Will this still be a chance to see the game's trailer, as well as more of the default songlist?

Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U Version song list

Released on November 2013, this is the first Taiko no Tatsujin game on the Wii U, the successor to Nintendo's Wii. The HD arcade interface was first seen on 3DS and parts of it on Wii 5, but it isn't until this game that it is presented in its full glory. Being backwards-compatible to the controllers of the Wii, this Taiko no Tatsujin has a huge array of control options to choose from; be it the Wii U Gamepad's buttons, touchscreen, or the old Wiimote and its Tatacon.

The songlist starts at 70 songs. While it may seem like a meager number, for the first time on a Nintendo console, downloadable songs are being planned for it, and it is a monthly affair with both free and paid downloads, much like the system used for Taiko Portable DX. This game is also the first console game to introduce the Vocaloid genre, which was introduced on the arcade through the Sorairo firmware update. As of this writing, all the downloadable songs are free of charge, with the only paid content being the costume parts, for 50 Yen a pop.

Together with the staple 2-4 player regular performance, a new multiplayer mode is being introduced as well - the Baton Pass mode (バトンタッチ, 'baton touch' in Japanese), in which players clear the songs by taking turns and passing the Wii U Gamepad to each other.
