Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U Ba~shon! (version)

Yesterday's blog post was written in a hurry to break the news quickly, but with more people getting their hands on the latest Famitsu we now have more details of the upcoming Taiko Wii U. Its official name is simply 'Taiko no Tatsujin Wii U Version' (太鼓の達人WiiUば~じょん!) (no we're not going with the stylized 'ba~shon' they're doing here, unless you guys think it to be more suitable), and it will be released on November 21, 2013 as promised.

The screen above is from Wii U. It looks like the HD arcade alright...but with a tacky-looking Mii face next to the difficulty bar. Also, from this shot it appears as if Don-chan is still sprite-based and not a 3D model like in the arcade. I don't know though; we'll have to see footage of it to be sure!

It can be played with the Wii U Gamepad, both buttons or touchscreen, the Wii Remote, and the Wii Tatacon. Classic Controller Pro support is still up in the air at the moment, as are any Miiverse connections.

A new multiplayer mode involving a single Gamepad called Baton Pass (バトンタッチ 'baton touch' in JP) involves players taking turns to clear a song by passing the Gamepad back and forth between them. How this will work in a rhythm game is not known yet, but it reminds me of players taking turns on Shimedore 2000 in the arcade. There can be orderly passing (P1 to P2 to P3) or random passing (the order of players is decided at random).

The songlist contains, initially, 70 songs, and more will be added each month via DLC. Songs can be either paid DLC or free, exactly the same model used for Taiko PSP DX.

And the current known songlist is! (red for brand-new, blue for console debut)
